WWE Power Rankings: Week of August 30th 2020
WWE Power Rankings are back and this will be dated back to Sunday night just after the Payback PPV. I really didn’t have a lot of time to prepare Payback Prediction and Reaction articles, so those didn’t get done. The rankings for the week will mostly reflect the PPV’s results, but there are a couple NXT entrants. Here the rankings for last week.
10: Santos Escobar
The Interim Cruiserweight Champion had a nice title defense last Wednesday against Isiah Swerve Scott. He’s had a great run with the belt thus far.
9: Breezango
Tyler Breeze and Fandango picked up a big win last week on NXT and earned their first tag title reigns. It’s good to see this team getting utilized and hopefully they have a successful title run.
8: Riott Squad
Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan picked up a kickoff show win against The IIconics at Payback. These two have reformed their team and it looks like they’re hitting their stride. It is sad to see The IIconics break up and hopefully they can put together nice singles careers. They were one of my favorite things about the women’s division and I personally think it is a huge mistake breaking them up.
7: Matt Riddle
Riddle and King Corbin have had a nice feud over the last few weeks and he got a big PPV win against him at Payback.
6: Big E
Big E has been on a momentous roll here lately and he defeated Sheamus on Sunday night at Payback to continue his nice singles run. We could see Big E competing for the big belt on SmackDown pretty soon and I think it is well deserved. and a long time coming.
5: Bobby Lashley
Lashley is the newest United States Champion and he defeated Apollo Crews to earn it on Sunday. This wasn’t a huge shock, but it was a nice match.
4: Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax
Jax and Baszler have to be one of the oddest pairing in quite some time, but they found a way to gain the tag titles on Sunday by beating Sasha and Bayley. It wouldn’t surprise me for them to have a lengthy reign.
3: Dominik and Rey Mysterio
The father/son duo defeated Rollins and Murphy on Sunday night in an exciting matchup. They’ve carried this feud out for quite some time, but it has been pretty interesting throughout.
2: Keith Lee
Keith Lee has had the biggest two months of his pro wrestling career and he is riding that momentum. He had a huge win against Randy Orton on Sunday and it was a lot shorter match than I think anyone was expecting. It looks like Lee is going in store for big things moving forward, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens to him in the next couple of months.
1: Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns captured what he never lost this Sunday. He became the new Universal champion defeated Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt at Payback and Roman’s new persona has created a lot of excitement. It appears that he is becoming more and more of a heel with each appearance and his alignment with Paul Heyman is interesting to say the least.
