Wyndham Championship DFS Preview
One more tournament to go and the PGA Tour begins the playoffs for the FedEx Cup. The top 125 golfers in the standings will advance and Sedgefield Country Club will be the deciding factor this week. There are quite a few big names (Fowler, Rose and Scott) that are still vying for their spot, so it should make for an interesting weekend. Last week, Abraham Ancer won in a playoff and guess what…we had him in our lineup. The all-around game is crucial anywhere the PGA Tour goes and that still remains for the Wyndham. I will be looking at Putting and Greens in Regulation this week, but scoring will be a premium as well.
Sedgefield Country Club is located in Greensboro, North Carolina…so this tournament is like homecoming for The Sports Chief. This course is on the shorter side of 7,000 yards and normally the winner scores about 20 under par. 156 golfers will be in the field and about 65 will make the cut after Friday. Webb Simpson comes in as a popular name, as he is a NC native…Will Zalatoris is another one as he played his college golf at Wake Forest. I do think that course familiarity is important, but I think I am going to go with another local name that may shock some people. The weather may play a factor as well, it appears it will be low 90’s with a chance of rain every day…maybe below 80’s on Sunday, which bodes well for showers.
Tier 1: Louis Oosthuizen ($10,700)
I could not resist going with one of the most consistent golfers in the world. Louis is still chasing that first win of the season and what better course than Sedgefield? The South African is the best in putting ranking P1 in strokes gained and 2nd in strokes gained overall. While others go Matsuyama, Zalatoris and Simpson…I will be going Oostuizen. CBS Sports has him at 18/1 and he is my choice to win in Greensboro.
Tier 2: Kevin Streelman ($8,300)
The theme is familiarity with the course right?!?!?! Kevin Streelman played at Duke University, which Durham is pretty similar geographically to Greensboro. This is not a bomber’s course and Streelman is not a bomber. He gains strokes all over the course is top-30 in greens in regulation. This just seems like a course that the veteran will contend at. CBS Sports has him at 40/1.
Tier 3: Chesson Hadley ($6,600)
This is my pick to play his way in to the FedEx Cup. Hadley is near Rickie Fowler in the standings and really needs a top-15 to do it…I think he can. Hadley had a great outing at Congaree with a P2…he really should’ve won that one. He is an elite putter ranking 11th in the field. Following the theme…he was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and Bojangles is one of his sponsors. An amazing value at 250/1 and I think he could get it done.
