The Dallas Cowboys Bet
Hello there, readers of The Sports Chief. Welcome back to a brand new football season. I don’t know about you, but we’re all super excited for the 2022-23 season to kick off and all the storylines to unfold. From seeing how new quarterback Baker Mayfield does for our hometown team to seeing how many psychedelic drinks Aaron Rodgers will throw back every week with no receivers to throw to. And this past week another storyline has been born, in the form of a bet.
Jarail, a die-hard Cowboys fan, agreed to a bet with Yacs this week, centering around the Dallas Cowboys. A few years ago Jarail went all in on the Cowboys and bet a decent sum that they would win the Super Bowl. Of course they didn’t, because they’re the Cowboys. Sometimes he lets his fandom get in the way of making smart decisions. Anyway, this year instead of a Super Bowl bet, and an unlikely one at that, I wanted to come up with something more fair, as well as something that would make each week interesting. So here’s the bet I came up with and the one each person agreed to.
For each regular season game the Cowboys lose, Jarail owes Yacs $10. If the Cowboys make the playoffs, $50 is erased from that deficit (or could put Jarail in the positive if the Cowboys lose less than five games). If the Cowboys were to win the Super Bowl, then everything that happened previously is disregarded and Yacs straight up owes Jarail $100…end of deal. But if the Cowboys fail to make the playoffs, then Jarail will owe Yacs $10 times the amount of losses they rack up.
With this bet, each person has the potential to win big, lose big, or break even. For example, last year the Cowboys went 12-5, made the playoffs, but didn’t bring home a Super Bowl. If this were to happen again this year, both guys would totally break even. So while there is a good possibility that neither person wins big, it is still possible that one does.
Each week I will provide updates on the standing of the bet, as well as some thoughts/reactions from both Jarail and Yacs. It should be fun to keep up with. Cheers to a brand new season!
