NFL Top 10 Power Ranking (After Week 7)

USA Today Sports

It was a bit of a topsy-turvy week in the NFL slate in Week 7. The Top 10 didn’t change drastically, but the team’s positions within the Top 10 might have. Some teams are starting to show their true colors while others are confusing to place. Here are my Week 7 Power Rankings.

10: Buffalo Bills (4-3)

I didn’t know whether to rank the Bills or not this week. They have looked pathetic over the last 3 weeks. They don’t even look like a playoff team at the moment. Do I think they will be tuned up for the playoffs in the back half of the season? Yes, I do. For now though, they dont look good. Honestly, they shouldn’t be Top 10, but I will give them one more shot to prove it. They will have another potential stumper on Thursday against Tampa Bay.

9: Seattle Seahawks (4-2)

I ranked the Seahawks this week simply because they played a game and won. The Cowboys are victims of the bye week, but the Seahawks deserved the jump up above the Steelers. Seattle played the Cardinals and looked OK, but I’m not sure if they will stay inside the Top 10 or not. For now, they are deserving. They have a tough matchup with the next team on this list coming up next.

8: Cleveland Browns (4-2)

The Browns move up a couple spots after a thriller in Indy. Aside from last week, they have been dominant on the defensive side of the ball. PJ Walker has been solid for them and I may even say that he has looked better than Watson. They seemingly play better with Walker leading things. We’ll see who is leading the pack for them against Seattle this week, but it is going to be a tough road contest for them.

7: San Francisco 49ers (5-2)

The Niners had a bad loss to a middle of the road team last night, but I still don’t think they’re bad. In fact, that Browns loss looks a little better after seeing how relentless they were against the Colts. The Niners will likely be within the Top 5 by the end of the season, but for now, they are banged up. They have the struggling Bengals ahead in Week 8, so we’ll see if they regain their footing or if they keep tumbling. I am ranking them a little lower than most due to the fact that they lost in back-to-back weeks.

6: Detroit Lions (5-2)

My number one team last week got absolutely embarrassed on Sunday. Like the Niners, I still don’t think that they’re a bad team, but man was Week 7 a bad week for them. They looked lost on the field, but this will be a good wakeup call for them. They have a very easy schedule for the rest of the season, so a good test and embarrassing loss could put them back on track. Detroit will play Vegas at home on Monday night, so that mojo should be back for them in next week’s rankings.

5: Jacksonville Jaguars (5-2)

I don’t think that Jacksonville is a Top 5 team in the NFL, they are just beneficiaries of higher teams having bad losses. I do think they are a very good team though. They are clearly the frontrunners for the AFC South now that the Titans are probably out of the picture, judging by the fact that they’re shipping people off. Also the Colts and Texans aren’t quite there yet. The Jags should benefit from that and likely remain in and around the Top 10 for quite some time.

4: Miami Dolphins (5-2)

The Dolphins lost against a very good Eagles team last week and I don’t think they should fall too far because of it. They have the Patriots coming up and they also give the Pats a tough test, no matter how good they are each year. I don’t anticipate them falling out of the Top 5 next week considering their matchup, but you never can tell. Tyreek Hill is still on pace to make history this season and potentially be the first 2,000-yard receiver in NFL history.

3: Baltimore Ravens (5-2)

The Ravens have looked like contenders in the last couple of weeks, especially against the Lions last week. Lamar Jackson is looking like an MVP and their defense is showing out. They’re playing like an elite defensive squad and if they can find consistency on the offensive side, they will be a tough team to beat in January.

2: Philadelphia Eagles (6-1)

I may have potentially under ranked the Eagles last week and I thought that they would go in a bit of a skid after their loss to the Jets, but I don’t think that will be the case. The Eagles are solid and that probably will not change. They have two division rivals on the upcoming slate and those could honestly go either way. They should beat the Commanders in a couple weeks, but the Cowboys will be a tough test in the upcoming week.

1: Kansas City Chiefs (6-1)

The Super Bowl teams are 1 and 2 in the Power Rankings after Week 7 and I haven’t been high on either team. In fact, I have made every case not to put them this high, but they’re deserving of it this week. The Chiefs have been rolling the last couple of weeks after a slow start. They beat a struggling Chargers team in Week 7 and they have the Broncos this week. I don’t expect them to be moved from the number one spot in next week’s ranking, but they have two tough games after that. The Dolphins in Week 9 and the Eagles in Week 11. In that Week 11 matchup, both teams will be fresh off of a bye week, so it should be an interesting matchup.
