Song of the Day: Something In The Air
Something In The Air by Thunderclap Newman. And no, Thunderclap Newman is not a made up name, it was actually the name of the band. Something In The Air is a song that more than likely sounds familiar to you because the song has featured in numerous movies, tv shows and commercials. Some of the movies it has featured in are Kingpin, Easy Rider, The Girl next Door, Almost Famous, along with a handful of others. The song was released in September of 1970 on Thunderclap Newman’s only studio album. The song went to number 1 in the UK, but didn’t fare quite as well in the US where it only hit 37. Other than this song, the other thing that Thunderclap Newman is most famous for is who played bass guitar on this song and the studio album. It only happened to be one of the most famous guitarists in the world. Pete Townshend of the The Who wasn’t necessarily a member of the band but he helped the band land a recording contract and played bass on the album, including Something In The Air.
