AEW Power Rankings: Week of January 30th, 2020
AEW yet again won the ratings war this week and had another decent show. This show didn’t pop like a lot of their programs, but it was a good show. We got to see some of the less featured performers in action this week and many of them got a chance to showcase their talents for future match considerations. Revolution is just a month away and I’m excited to see that PPV. Things are heating up and I think it will be an interesting few weeks. Here are my Rankings for this week.
- 5: SCU
I was interested to see how they would handle SCU after losing their titles last week. They came back with a vengeance with a win against Hybrid2. Hybrid2 hasn’t been featured a bunch since the start of Dynamite, so this may be a sign of more TV time for them. SCU had a cool tribute to Kobe Bryant and the match was great as well. We’ll see what happens between now and Revolution, but I expect them to get a chance to earn their titles back pretty soon.
- 4: Britt Baker
I was far from impressed with Britt Baker last week despite giving her a spot on the Power Rankings, but this week, she was awesome. I mentioned that she didn’t seem like she was comfortable with a heel role, but she stepped into her comfort zone this week. The open sea setting of last week’s Dynamite could’ve had something to do with Baker’s awkwardness, but she did a wonderful job this week. She had the crowd in the palm of her hand and hopefully this is a sign of things to come. I loved her closing line when she told the Cleveland crowd that they “finally have a Baker that they can trust in.”
- 3: Cody
Cody faced Kip Sabian in a singles match this week, but even though it was a solid match, the biggest entertainment value came from the managers. Arn Anderson was ejected for bumping into the ref, but Penelope Ford really shined in this segment. I would like to see her in the ring more, but for now, her role as Sabian’s manager is perfectly fine. Cody hit his finisher three times in a row to secure the victory. Although it wasn’t a big deal this week, the feud with he and MJF should be heating up even more in the coming weeks.
- 2: Jon Moxley
The biggest feud heading into Revolution is the Moxley/Jericho feud without a doubt, and this week put that on full display. You could make an argument for Moxley taking the top spot, but I gave the edge to the ones that competed this week. Moxley opened the show with a promo and he made a save in the main event to fend off The Inner Circle, who attacked Darby Allin after the match. Moxley has been the AEW performer with the biggest push in 2020 and for good reason. Expect more of this to come and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him stroll into the month of March as AEW Champion.
- 1: The inner Circle
Jericho and his group takes the top spot this week. Sammy Guevara created a little bit of buzz on Sunday by “invading” the Royal Rumble with his toy tank. I thought it was hilarious and it wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, although a lot of exclusive WWE fans probably took it that way. On Wednesday however, they dominated Dynamite. Jericho interrupted Moxley’s promo in the opener and they secured a main event win against Darby Allin and Private Party. Look for Jericho and The Inner Circle to dominate for the next few weeks as well.
