Charlotte FC Report: Week 19, 2022
It wasn’t a good week for Charlotte. They added two more losses to the tally this week and things aren't looking too good for the club. There isn't a ton of momentum right now. I thought they looked good against Austin at home on Thursday despite the losing effort. They gave up the one goal, but I thought they looked ok considering the loss. They had a lot of opportunities, they just couldn’t capitalize on them. On Saturday, they dropped the match 2-1, against Montreal. Guzmán Corujo scored the lone goal of the week and it was somewhat of a surprising goal. I think Charlotte would’ve had a real shot to get their first road win against Montreal if they had a full lineup, but most of the lineup was full of reserves. They had 10 players on health and safety protocol list and weren’t able to suit up. In acquisition news, Alan Franco has been loaned out to Argentine club, Club Atlético Talleres for the rest of the season, it is the club’s first loan transfer. The next time that Charlotte plays in a midweek matchup will be the friendly against Chelsea in 3 weeks, but for the upcoming week, there is only one matchup.
Charlotte will go on the road to Houston tomorrow and will face the Dynamo. Houston has had somewhat of an underwhelming season thus far, so hopefully Charlotte can use that to their advantage. Houston Dynamo FC is currently 9th in the West with 21 points, just one ahead of Charlotte. They give up as many goals as they score, and Darwin Quintero is the leading leg on the team with 7 goals this season. Sebastián Ferreira has scored 6 on the season, so these are the top two scoring options for Houston.
Each week seems to be the same story. The road woes continue, and it appears that there is no end in sight. Each week, I remain optimistic. This could be the week that Charlotte picks up their win on the road. Houston has lost 6 of their last 7 contests and Charlotte should take full advantage of that. While they won their last home contest, they haven’t been a dominant team at home. This is definitely a winnable contest for Charlotte and even though it feels like we have waited far too long for a road win, all that matters is that you get that win out of the way. This could be the week. Remain optimistic.
